This chapter was definitely an emotional rollercoaster to write, and I really wanted to dive deep into the sheer raw vulnerability, desperation, and hidden tension between Lisette and Joshua.
Lisette’s willingness to offer her own body just to secure a way back to the human world shows just how utterly lost and desperate she feels right now. Proposing to sell herself to Joshua was a heartbreaking moment, but it truly underscores her determination to regain her freedom, no matter the cost. She feels completely helpless in a strange, terrifying world, and in her eyes, this extreme bargain is her only way out.
On the flip side, can we take a moment to talk about Joshua? His firm rejection of her offer says so much about his character. Deep down, Joshua has been waiting for Lisette for a very long time, and resisting that offer was far from easy for him! But he refuses to take advantage of her distress. He doesn't want to be viewed as a heartless monster or a wild, predatory beast who claims women against their will, especially when he knows just how frightened she is of the werewolf realm right now. His restraint shows a side of him with strong moral boundaries, suggesting that his feelings for her run much deeper than mere possession. He wants her, but not like this.
Then morning comes, bringing a gentle change of pace that I hope gave you a little bit of comfort after all that intense angst! Entering a terrifying new world is overwhelming, but seeing Lisette go through her daily routine accompanied by Mira, her personal maid, shifts the tone beautifully. For the first time, Lisette begins to feel a genuine sense of warmth in this castle. The servants treat her with immense kindness, respect, and utmost care, showing her that the werewolf world isn't entirely cold and terrifying.
Will this gentle care from Mira and the castle staff slowly melt the icy fear in Lisette's heart? How long can Joshua keep his intense desires and true feelings hidden while keeping his distance? And will Lisette ever begin to see Joshua not as a threat, but as someone who genuinely wants to protect her?
